What is the linksys setup page ip address?
I need to reset my wireless linksys router's security b/c I think I messed it up. For some reason my wireless connection works all the time but when I use the hardwired computer connected to the router it resets the connectino periodically. I want to reset my router security.. This is my only guess as to what I should do. Any suggestions? What is that IP again? thanks.|||192.168.1.1
How do you setup a wep key for your linksys router?
The WEP key is set by logging in to your router then choosing the "Wireless" tab (2nd from the left) and then "Wireless security". The easiest way is to specify a passphrase, which will generate the WEP key(s) - you only need the first one.
These days, WPA is recommended because it provides better security. WEP is more compatible with older wireless equipment.

How do I setup a username/password on my router to prevent others from using my network?
Well, title pretty much ask the question...How do I setup a username/password on my router to prevent others from using my network? I'm using a Linksys WRT54GL router. I really want to setup a network name/password so people using wireless adapters/laptops can't access my internet connection around my area. Someone help please ?|||Hi there,
Well, I would use the 'permit ONLY' option in linksys router. When in router web, click wireless tab at the top and follow by Wireless MAC Filter, check the box which state 'permit only'.
Remeber to key in your own mac address in the 'Edit mac filter list' or you yourself being shut out....
Just in case...you could get your mac address by going to cmd prompt and key in ipconfig/all and hit enter. Look for wireless physical address, key in that numbers or letters in your router setting.
By doing the above, only those mac address keyed in are able to connect to your network.
Cheers!|||To enable the wireless security settings of the router:
1) Log into your router and change the password for admin to something other than what it is now. Write it down. Label the bottom of the router with either a label maker or a piece of tape. Attach password tape to the bottom of the router Don't cover the vents with the tape or label. Change the SSID to something other than what it is now. Nothing screams leech my 'Net to a slug; like a router with an SSID of Linksys or D-Link or Netgear.
2) Go to the wireless settings tab and enable WPA or WPA2. This depends on the wireless devices you have on YOUR network. If all of your devices use WPA2, then enable WPA2 only. If you have a single device that can only use WPA then you have to use WPA on the router. Set the WPA or WPA2 password then write that on another label or tape and attach to bottom of your router. If someone steals your router it won't matter if they have the password or not because they could manually reset the router.
3) Set the same WPA or WPA2 passphrase you used in step 2, to each wireless device on your network.
Don't bother using WEP. It can be cracked in 5 minutes or less. If you have a wireless device that cannot use WPA or WPA2 replace it ASAP with a device that is WPA2 capable.

How do I setup a home network using xp pro and a linksys router?
I have 4 computers, 3 using XP Pro, 1 using Vista. I have cable internet, which is connected directly to my Linksys router model # BEFW11S4. Internet works great on all of the computers. 2 of the computers have a wireless connection to the router (1 of the XPs and the VISTA), and the other 2 are connected via Ethernet cords. I just want to be able to share a printer (if fairly easy to setup), and files between all the computers. I tried running the network wizard, made a network setup file, put it in the wireless XP computer and it told me the computer already belongs to a domain?? Please help.|||In order for you to share them all, you have to make them all part of a "workgroup" you are not in a "domain" that is if you had a server running windows server software. On the XP: Right click on my computer click on the computer name tab, click on where it says "To rename the computer or join a domain click Change" You can name your computer whatever you want, maybe leave the name like it is already, since you know what each one does or belongs to, but go to where it says member of: click on workgroup, and make up a group name it doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is short an simple, something that identifies your home network. then restart the PC. do this for all the PC's.
In the Vista computer, is about the same, except after you click on properties in the computer, click on the left where it says: Advanced system settings, then click on the computer name tab and click on "to rename this computer click change".
You might have to turn off firewalls, because the Vista has a security issue trusting other computers. Good luck.

How to connect a linksys wireless router to my adsl modem?
I followed the steps given by the installation CD and the installation prompted that error with router connection
I have both the linksys router and DSL modem ON
I am able to connect to the internet but the setup wizard failed saying error in router connection
By the way my brother has a pentium 4 assembled PC
How do I establish a wireless connection with it|||have you got the DSL modem connected to the internet port of the linksys router ?
Also how does the DSL modem connect to your PC if you connected it directly with regards to ip addressing , does it use DHCP ie it assigns an ip address automatically or do you have to assign your computer a static ip address along with subnet mask, default gateway and DNS ?
The above will determine how you configure your linksys router and instead of using the cd to configure your linksys router use the ip address of the router via a web browser to access the config page of the linksys router and configure it through the web browser with regards to wireless, wireless security and the routers setup config.
drop me a message if you need more help or give linksys a call.|||forget the installer program. Use the web based interface described in the manual. uninstall all the router software. You would be better off using a dsl router, this would replace the existing modem and remove many of the problems.
