Do i need to run the linksys router disc setup?

I bought a router and connected it, i can connect to the internet but when i run the installation disc it says it cannot find the router even though im connected to the internet. What do i need to do to fix this? When i got to the site 192.168.1.1 it says the site doesn't exists and this is where i need to go to set it up|||Make sure you are connected to the correct WiFi network. By default the ESSID is "Linksys" and on channel 6, i believe..

If you are connected to the net (with your Linksys) do an ipconfig on windows (ifconfig on unix or mac) to get the ip address assigned via DHCP (by the router) The router should be the first node. So, if it is 192.168.2.2 the router will probably be 192.168.2.1... I think you're on the wrong WiFi, though.. Linksys, from my experience, is always defaulted to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 with a user-name and passwd of admin.

But, no, you do not need the discs if you know how to configure them manually. I always throw the things away, and never use them.|||if you have configured the router correctly, forget about that router disc, it's just optional to be used. Usually the router management page IP is the default gateway IP of your computer, you can always type following command in command prompt to find out.

ipconfig

Hope this helps.

Make sure the dsl/cable/fios modem is connected to the router's WAN port and that your machine is connecting to the router, either through a physical wire or by the wireless setup.

The router's IP should be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or something like that by default, if you cannot connect to that IP, you are getting your internet connection directly and not through the router. When you are behind a working router, you can ALWAYS see the router's IP, even when the internet is unplugged or not working.
