How come I can't get online with my linksys wireless broadband router?

I have an ethernet connection and I followed all the steps to setup the linksys wireless broadband router WRT54GS. After that I couldn't get online on my original laptop and the one trying to use the wireless was very slow. What can I do?|||Sounds like you have two issues.

1. The computer that will not connect at all. Connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable. Turn the computer off and back on. This should allow the router to update the ip address of the computer. Verify that you can get on the internet. If this works, disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer, turn on the wireless feature of the computer. Locate the SSID of your router from the list of available wireless connections. Enter the SSID and Encryption code (generally, found on a tag on the bottom of the router).

2. Slow connection on computer that will connect wirelessly. Clear the Cache of your browser (assuming ie, tools, internet options, browsing history, delete, temporary..., cookies, history).

Move the computer to a direct line of sight position relative to the router. The signal strength should max out. If not try the same thing with your other computer. If both still read low signal there may be a problem with the router, contact Linksys or exchange the router for a new one.

Good Luck|||Turn off your modem and unplug the router. Then, plug the router back in. Wait for the router to power up and only then turn on the modem. They're rather picky about the order in which they get turned on.
