In my linksys wifi router setup, there is a fielder there for wireless network access-wireless MAC filter...?

There is a button there to click to "permit only pcs listed to access the wireless network" And at the bottom there are many same boxes of MAC1: ___________. MAC2: __________, MAC3:________ and so on.... I only want 2 laptops to access the wireless signal. I dont want anybody accessing my wifi signal. What characters do I put inthe field to recognize that this notebook is permitted to access the wifi signal. Thanks..|||When you run your IPCONFIG/ALL, you are not looking for the MAC address, you are looking for the physical address, which is a different name for the same thing. See blow for an example from my computer. Enter the physical address in the MAC address field on the wireless device and you should be all set.

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Linksys Wireless-G USB

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-B6-93-8E-29

Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.11

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0|||go to the start - run type in cmd then in the cmd box type ipconfig /all

that will show you your ip and mac address just put the mac addres of the computers u want to have acess in the router.

im me at computertecknet if u woudl liek more help|||Every single network device has a unique MAC address. You can usually find this by looking on the back of the device.

In windows you can do this by going to

1.Start%26gt;run

2.enter 'cmd' and push enter

3.when the dos window appears type in

ipconfig /all

Now look for the device with wireless in the name. It should print out the MAC address.

Now on the router if you enable the MAC address filter you can either accept or deny certain MAC addresses.

BTW, you can change your MAC address, so it's not that secure of a solution to preventing wireless device to connect. It does prevent the average user though.
