I can't setup my router Linksys WRT54GS with ATT DSL... Can somebody help with the settings?

You don't need any CD. But it helps if you are aware of router basics. First, to get you connected to the modem.

1. Turn everything off.

2. Disconnect the cable from the DSL modem to the computer.

3. Connect the cable from the modem to the "Internet" port on the back of the router.

4. Connect a network cable from one of the other ports on the back of the router to your network port on your computer.

5. Turn your modem back on, then your router, then the computer.

6. When the computer comes up, make sure that your network settings are such that it obtains IP addresses automatically.

7. Open a browser and enter this address 192.168.1.1

8. A window should pop up asking you for a username and password. If it doesn't your network settings on your computer are wrong. If it does appear then skip the username and enter "admin" as the password and hit the enter key.

9. You should be in the setup window/basic setup.

10. At the very top, click in the dropdown box window and select PPPoE. The information in the widow will change a bit.

11. Enter your ATT DSL username and password in the next two boxes down. Leave the service name blank.

12. You should go down the list and make sure that there is a router name listed(doesn't really matter what it is), the local IP address is 192.168.1.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and that DHCP is enabled. Starting IP address should probably be 192.168.1.100 but that's not that important as long as the last block is above 1.

13. Hit save on the bottom of the screen.

14. Just for good measure, restart your computer. Yes for the others that read this, it may not be necessary and yes there are other ways to do it.

15. That should be it to setup a wired connection to the router.

To check the status of the connection of the router to the modem, go back to a browser window, type in the 192.168.1.1 address, skip the username, enter "admin" in the password box and hit enter (you can change all that if you wish, that's just the Linksys defaults) Click on the "Status" link on the top of the window and see if it says "Connected" in the Log In Status section. If it does then the info you entered is correct and you should be able to browse. If not then verify your account info and try again.

If you need to setup your wireless... Go to the Linksys website or read the manual. I frankly don't want to type that much here. ;-)|||This helped alot, thanks. However, there is one critical step missing that I was able to call AT%26amp;T to resolve. With the PC connected, and no router, you must browser to the DSL Admin screen and change the connection protocol from PPOe to Bridged Ethernet. Reconnect router and go.

|||I have the Linksys WRT54GS V1.0 wireless router and the Motorola 2210 silver Modem. I called Linksys' 24 hour service 1-800-326-7114 and followed the automated help for the WRT54GS.

On the Linksys Admin screen, make sure the local IP address is 192.168.2.1.

|||ok i will try to help. when you buy the router and open a box, there should be a CD that says something like Linksys Setup Guide. Pop the CD in and it should be giving you step by step instructions.. if you have lost the CD, im sorry to say but your screwed. Good Luck and i Hope like hell you have the CD!:P
