Why can't i connect my linksys router to my comcast modem and gateway computer?

my cable connections are not ethernet, they r usb. the steps in the Linksys cd setup do not apply to my connections. the second step is to disconnect my ethernet from my gateway comp. and put into the internet whole on the router. there is no ethernet cable connection to my gateway. there is only a usb plugged into my modem and it connects to by gateway via a usb plug.|||your problem is you are using usb, unplug the usb cord and put in a drawr and dont use it, go get an ethernet jumper and attach it between the modem and the router and a ethernet jumper between your router and computer, and dont let me hear you mention usb and internet in the same breath again. just kidding.

your router must have an ethernet connection on it as well as the usb, you will need to use that insted of the usb cable.

everything needs to be connected with ethernet jumpers.

Good Luck

TV|||First off, you already stated your problem that you don't have a network card. If you have a wireless Linksys router, I suggest purchasing a wireless network card for your Gateway PC. You might as well go wireless if that is the case. It's very simple to install the network card into your PC. Just double check that you have open PCI slots available.

If you've recently purchased the Gateway, maybe you might get some type of free support or discount on upgrades. Good luck.|||you might still be able to connect your gateway computer to the linksys router anyways (but you'll need a cable, usually provided with your linksys router, somewhere in the box) one end of the cable plugs into the linksys router itself, and the other end of the cable plugs into the gateway computer's ethernet port (looks like the ports on the back of the linksys router) if your gateway computer does not have an ethernet port that means that your gateway computer does not have an ethernet adapter installed or doesn't have ethernet built in (which may be why usb connections were used for your comcast internet connection to begin with)

in that case, you will have to purchase an ethernet adapter for your computer (cheap to buy) or a wireless adapter for your gateway computer (not so cheap) your gateway computer needs ethernet or wireless capability to use the linksys router

good luck :-)|||I have the same thing cable line to the modem, line from the modem to the router line from port one of the router to the Ethernet card in the computer.

note: even though you are using USB line you have to have Ethernet card installed inside the computer.
