How do I setup a Linksys router with an optimum online modem so that I can use internet on multiple PCs?

Hi experts! I have optimum online at my home and, of course their, modem. I want to use it with multiple PCs and also make it wireless internet because I also have one laptop. I have a linksys router. I just do not know how to do that. Do I just connect the modem and the router through an ethernet cable and connect the PCs by ethernet cables from router to PCs, or do I have to configure the modem and the router fitst? If yes, then how can I do that? Thanks a lot. Please reply soon.|||WOw, This might be long.

Well First off, make sure you do have internet access, or this will not work everything must be turned off. Connect the Ethernet wire from the Modem to the Linksys. The Port should say Internet in your Linksys box.

2. on Port 1 on Linksys box, connect the Ethernet wire to your PC

3. on Port 2 on Linksys box, connect the Ethernet wire to your other PC.

4.Turn on your modem, then Linksys, then PC

5.Click on your web Browser (IE7 or Firefox, etc...)

6. Type in http://192.168.1.1

User Name: Leave Blank

Password:admin (in lower case)

You should be directed to the linksys setup page.

7.Under the setup tab, click on MAC address Clone sub Tab

8.Click on "enable" and Click on the clone button after. Click Save Settings when Done.

--This will clone a linksys IP Address to multiple computers and all will have Internet access with no problems. Thats It for wired computer, now lets go wireless.

Type in ten digit numbers on key1 (i.e 10 digit phone number, no spaces in between) Take note of the number you typed in in key 1, that is your network key

Save Settings

Now go to your home page. You should have internet access.

If by any chance you don't, make sure your computer is set on automatic.

Start%26gt; control Panel%26gt;network and internet connections%26gt;network connections%26gt;-Right Click-on Local Area connection%26gt;Properties

Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Then Click Properties Tab

on the General TAB
