Linksys Adapter And Router Problem, Plz help!?

I just bought a wireless Llinksys Pci adapter. The model of this device is WMP54GS, and the router is Wireless G broadband Router. I noticed on the back of the router box, it says works with WMP54G, But i suppose it will work with all wireless G adapters? No?

I have the updated driver for windows vista for my wireless WMP54GS, i disabled my Ethernet card, and the linksys Router Setup Advisor STILL don't recongnize the wireless adapter. Am i doing something wrong? or both of these device don't work together??|||You are right - your Linksys PCI adapter will work as 54 Mbps (version g of the 802....standards of the Wi-Fi Specs), same as your router.

As a matter of fact, any make of PCI Adapter will work with any Router - doesn't matter BELKIN, Netgear, Siemens etc PCI adapters with Linksys or any other brand Router.. Only the speed of Data Transfer will depend on whether the hardware is b (11Mbps) or g (54 Mbps).

First of all. check if the ROUTER is successfully connected to the Internet - for this open your browser and type the Gateway number given in the Router manual - usually http//192.168.1.1. Your Linksys Router must appear on the PC Screen.

Now you have to link WIRELESSLy the PCI to the Router. For that, go to the Networking icon on your PC Desktop or Control panel.Check if the Linksys Wireless Network is available for the PCI to access..

Then go to your SYSTEM in the Control Panel and ensure that the PCI hardware is installed.

Go to the Properties of the PCI Adapter and select AUTOMATICALLY DETECT the Router's IP %26amp; DNS numbers. The PCI should then automatically connect to the Router.

Otherwise you will have to PHYSICALLY ENTER the 5 Rows of Numbers (4 sections in each)

1) IP Address of your PC (e.g. 192.168.1.10) in which 10 is the 10th Computer/Laptop number in the System

2) IP Address of your Internet Gateway (usually 192.168.1.1)

3) Subnet Mask (this is automatic and will appear as

255.255.255.0)

4)Primary DNS

5)Secondary DNS

Check with your Internet Service Provider for the current DNS configuration - they keep on changing these!

If you have from the earlier Ethernet the figures (go to to your IE Browser and under TOOLS %26amp; INTERNET OPTIONS select Connections. There, you will see (Properties of TCP/IP ) the DNS numbers you have been successfully using.

Best of luck!|||Here's a complete guide to how to do it.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone鈥?/a>|||it works with all adapters...try adjusting channel frequency of the wireless.|||there are 5 ports on the back of your router. one is green and marked "uplink". this connects to your broadband modem or dsl router by a standard cat-5 eithernet cable. You should have your either net card enabled. If there is a cat-5 eithernet cable attaching your computer to the router, unplug it at the computer end. The software will, by default, turn off the wireless link when a cat-5 network cable is conected (automatically). There is one other possibility. If your were using a USB connection to the broadband before, your ISP provider may need to change a setting at their end, and there may be a "mac" address problem as well. Your isp customer service can probably fix this over the phone. I recommend using the cat-5 connection always, unless the router is far enough away from the PC to make this un-feasable.
