I am attempting to set up a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and while running the setup it says that it is unable to automatically detect my internet connection and modem type. It allows me to continue through the setup and configures the router, but the router will not read the internet. I am still able to use the internet on my computer and through wired connections, but it still says it cannot read the internet connection. Any help is appreciated.|||you need to wire it first then set the wep key and ssid into the modem then you will be able to hook it up wirelessly|||Well, just like the wireless router cannot tell how to connect, I am not sure anyone is going to be able to help until you give more information about the set up. I don't live on Yahoo Answers, and I skip a lot of questions that don't give enough information. Help us help you.
Do you have the router connected to the modem? Is it cable or DSL? In order to connect to your ISP, you often have to supply credentials (ID and password). YOu may have your computer set up to do this which is why it may work when you are wired to the modem. By the way, when you said you were able to access it through the "wire connections" was the WRT54G part of the wired connection? If that is the case, then everything I said so far is not applicable. See why the details are important?
If you can used the ethernet connection of the WRT54G, then you have a problem with the wireless set up. That is a different animal altogether. YOu may need to configure the wireless client on your computer to have a WEP key or WPA passcode, depending on how the router is set up.
Figure out what part you need help with, then ask that question.
