Linksys Wireless Router setup?

I bought a linksys wireless router (Model WRT54GS) and tried to connect it to my new Dell Laptop. I bought it around April last year, and couldn't get past the setup steps on the disc. I always got to Step 4, and it either said "The New router or modem is not detected" or "The ethernet cable is not connected properly." I followed the steps EXACTLY how they say them, and tried keeping the old router to my computer, and then replacing it with just the wireless one, but nothing seems to work.





I eventually gave up last year, but since then, I have gotten an iPod Touch, XBOX 360, PS3, and a Wii, and have had to connect them to the old router for my computer as well as having to connect my laptop to it.





What can I do to make it work? There's no possible way I just don't have the cords hooked up properly because I've tried every combination. I was thinking about just calling Linksys since I never thought it was necessary before, this is just gettign ridiculous, unless anyone can think of another solution?
