How do I setup a PASSWORD for my LINKSYS ROUTER if I have a laptop and 2 pc's connected to the router?

I heard it's a little difficult to do and if you do it wrong you can mess up the connection, so does anyone know how to do it correctly?

I have a laptop, and 2 pc's connected to the router.

My laptop is wireless so there is no ethernet cable connected to the router (just runs from the wireless card). Desktop #1 is connected to the main router (wireless-g 802.11g) through an ethernet cable. Desktop #2 is far from the router so I have a wireless-g USB adapter connected to desktop #2 to feed from from the main big papa router.

All the help would be great. A step by step procedure would be even better!! Thank you. =)|||Well normally you could do it with any computer as long as it is connected to the Linksys. But a Wired connection is much preferred.

Type in 192.168.1.1 to get into your Linksys Routers Management page or UI (User Interface). By default Username is usually blank and password is admn. There should be an option there for Wireless.

SSID is your Network name or what your wireless signal be named.

There will be an option there for security or Wireless Encryption.

Then you may chose which kind of security you would like. The moment you save the changes all Computers that is a wireless would be automatically disconnect. You can just reconnect and comply with the security changes you made.

If along the process you make a mistake or unable to login to the UI then there is a reset button on the linksys bringing it back to factory settings. just press it for 10 sec for a complete reset|||go to your web browser, and type in the ip address to your router. You can acquire this address by typing in ipconfig /all from a command prompt. It will be the address under default gateway. By default it is 192.168.1.1. Type this address into your address bar in internet explorer. It should now prompt you for a user name and password. Leave the username blank and put in admin for the password. Now you are logged into your router. From there you should be able to navigate to the page to change your password.|||ok this is simple just read the pdf file that came on the disc for the router and it explains how to do it|||Do you want to change your password that you use to log in to 192.168.1.1. or something or do you want to put a password so people who want to use your interent need to put in a password

1 time

go to this web site and you will know how to change you password

If its the latter there are a number of ways to do it. The easiest is to filter by MAC address. The most secure would be to use WEP

I never set mine up and i have family members useing the network and they don't bother with the settings as there is no need for them to do so. However if you feel the need the procedure is simple.

My router is six years old so I had to redo the network wiz to get to the pw screen... yours maybe different..but from what I saw its a standard enter and repeat proceedure.. enter pw and enter to confirm and enter to set wiz is done... I have fdisked all my units since then several times and with the win xp os I have never used the router set up agin but set my network up through the network wiz useing the router as a hub to connect all units.. works fine for me
